My Gap: TOTE BAG FOR ART SUPPLIES

FIND THE GAP
List of Ten Gaps

1. Storage solution for hats, gloves and scarves in the mudroom.
2. Design tool shed near the garden.
3. Garlic press needs better leverage and more ergonomic handles for easier operation.
4. Permanent clothesline setup; now the line is put up each time across the driveway between the garage and an outbuilding.
5. Folding stand for starting seeds in the spring in the house under lights.
6. A better shower caddy. Stuff falls out of the present one.
*7. A tote bag for drawing and painting supplies for use in the field.
8. Organizing and storage solutions for my studio.
9. Garden gate.
10. Sewing kit for travel.

My choice of an artifact that I "love" is a latch for a shed door that I made about ten years ago.  I anticipated that the double doors of this building might shift (due to settling and/or frost heaves) so that a standard metal thumb-latch would not work consistently.  I made a latch from wood with more tolerances for staying fastened.  It has worked over time; and I like how it looks and feels to operate.

Here is a photo showing the cord which opens the door from inside.

I have shown this artifact here perhaps to brag a little. But there are so many others around me that I also love: my iPod; a combination ice pick and bottle opener from the 1920's; David A. Carter's pop-up books; a ceramic garlic grater from Portugal; a toy top from Istanbul; on and on...

I have ideas for "My Gap," and am anxious to see how they develop. Just hope I'm not too hampered by the technology involved in setting up and using this web page,  although it's also exciting to learn about that.
